FRIDAY night will be buzzing in Belfast when local legend Martin Rogan takes to the ring to take on Sam Sexton in the entertainer’s ‘homecoming’ fight.
One thing is certain folks, you won’t get big Rogie at big odds this weekend.
We tipped our old school chum at 4/1 in his last two victories against Matt Skelton and Audley Harrison and local layers go 1/6 that he can dispose of Sexton.
Word has it that there is no love lost between the two fighters and this will surely play into the hands of Rogan.
So we expect the big man to put on a show and to end this one early and round 3 at 25/1 or round 4 at 20/1 look a good investment. Take your choice. Or even take both.
Todays Nags: BORDER PATROL and Invincible Heart
Ending with a nice article on Springfield Road punter Jackie Hughes called into a city centre pitch on Tuesday night after work to do a football bet and quickly scribbled down a £5 treble.
He took AMBROSE PRINCESS in a race that was just about to go off (6.00pm Newton Abbot) and got on with seconds to spare.
His first selection wore down the favourite and won with a bit in hand at 7/1.
A £40 double was the order of the day and when Jackie arrived home he checked the Teletext to see how his second selection had got on.
DEE CEE ELLE (5/1) had hacked up in the 6.30 at Newton Abbot and our punter now had £240 riding on his last selection.
He changed sports and his last selection was first goalscorer in the live football match on Sky.
He fancied Burnley so he took striker Martin Patterson to open the scoring at 6/1.
A fruitless first-half left Jackie on tenterhooks, then six minutes after the break, Patterson picked the ball up, ran 30 yards on goal and let go – back of the net!
Jackie was in dreamland. He had just scooped £1,680 for a fiver. What an absolutely cracking bet.

what has rogie or sweat pea ever done for belfast apart from hold the bar up and yes i would say it to their faces.Violence does not frighten me.I'm a lover not a fighter but they are 2 bums.At least Mal Donaghy has put a lot of effort into communities and youth football.
Also notice they cannot sell 4,000 tickets for tonight and have gave another 900 away.Should have held it in mcdermotts.
adriannnnnnnnnnnnn
well done rogie
a punch bag just like we thought.
the younger, better fighter won along with man utd
adriannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Just lacked that killer instinct Rogie.. but I think he will get a re-match and the victory.
Tonight's relegation game looks a nailed-on draw at 11/5 - 2-2 at 14s and Sylvain Distin first goal at 22s..
Mondays Nagwatch: Affluent (last race Windsor)
thot the ref was a disgrace big rogie done himself proud but end of the day was just 2 nice a guy. but think if he hada touched the guy he wuda fell over big man was out on his feet.....
you fight to the bell or till the ref stops the fight
rogie did not
the best man won
ABSOLUTE DISGRACE!!! Dave Parris is normally not too bad a referee but that Rogan fight was unreal. His mishandling of that fight could cost a man plenty of money. Iv never, ever (to the best of my recollection) seen a fighter in the ascendancy getting stopped like that before. The BBBC should do something about it.
Another local guy is on Prizefighter on Tuesday. Darren Corbett is 12-1. might be worth a tenner eachway as hes still got a big punch. Hes up against one strong line-up. Scott, Simpson, Dunstan Not to mention other former British and European champions. Just his luck.
johnnyboy
The referee also says 'protect yourself at all times' which Sexton clearly didnt. He may have won the early rounds but its a 12 round fight and Sexton, quite frankly, swallowed it. Spitting out gumshields for a breather is what your told when your 13 or 14 plus he was out on his feet. Dont get me wrong, i like and respect Rogan and would like to see him get his financial reward but i wouldnt have lost much sleep if he lost fairly and squarely. Its the injustice of it that annoys me. Everybody seen it as clear as day in the arena and on the tv.
johnnyboy
another winner PG keep it going
Johnny boy, boxing is a dirty game and corrupt.Just look at Don King.
Nothing should surprise you about decisions, but Rogie could not continue.
Simple.
Mackers
Mackers, i agree with you, it was a bad eye but why not stop it the first time? Why wait til the mans effectively stopped his opponent before doing it cos it certainly wasnt any worse as Sexton was banjaxed and in no state to defend himself hence the comical goings-on when he spat his gumshield out and turned his head away and Parris immediately warned Rogan for rabbit-punching!!!! Then he gives him a breather to put his gumshield back in!!! As iv said before i like Rogan, he seems a pleasant enuf guy but i wouldnt have lost any kip if he was beat fairly and squarely. Iv read guys saying the better man won. Well, anyman who thinks that is either anti-rogan or doesnt know the sport hes watching. Yes, Sexton was ahead (slightly) but its a 12round fight.
johnnyboy
Sexton was ahead on my scorecard but Rogie was gaining and would have won but for the dreadful referee.. has be a re-match but how much more damage could that eye take??
Kildare Sun last at Nottingham is todays Nag to follow
Fair enough comment with the eye PG and i do agree it was bad but my gripe is with the ref. I may be wrong here but if you watch him from the time Sexton is first hurt, all the ref seems concerned about is rogans eye, not the condition of Sexton which is what his primary concern should be. This is where i felt sorry for Rogan. When Sexton was first hurt and Rogan went for the finish, the ref warned him yet when Sexton was out on his feet later on, Rogan was pillored for not laying into him. He couldnt win!
johnnyboy
Johnny Boy Rogan was gave one round to win by the ref then the fight would be stopped.I think the ref and doctor was right to stop it.Big Rogie could have seriously been hurt.He could not see some punches at certain angles coming at him.
Does anyone know who was ahead on the judges scorecards when it was stopped
Mackers
I had Sexton 2-3 rounds up to be honest. some rounds were close and i do take your point. it was a nasty eye but your man had nothing left. He wasnt throwing punches bar those 3 sneaky ones that were weak as p**s when Rogan thought it was over. Hopefully he'll get a return altho i wouldnt hold my breath
johnnyboy
just missed out yesterday with Kildare Sun going down by a whisker - we like the in-form Wicklow Lad in the 8.10 at Sligo tonight.
We have the UEFA Cup final this evening and we think Shakhtar Donetsk (9/5) look the bet against german side Werder Bremen who leak a lot of goals and are missing key player Diego who makes this team tick.
so a 3-1 or 3-2 to Shakhtar scoreline could be two nice bets at 20/1 and 25/1. First Goal Jadson looks a solid choice at 9s.
At the start of any boxin match the ref says protect yourself at all times...an simple fact is that sexton wasnt protectin himself so the fight should have been stopped...
prizefighter last nite was good 14/1 and 18/1 in the final...thot ure man corbett from belfast was gonna do it at one stage but he was just too slow....
and too fat
oi yer ma!
Too fat???? Hes near 5 stone lighter than what he was before!!! Id like to see you say it to his face
just stating a fact!
look at the shape he was in compared to some of the other guys
i think if he had been a bit trimmer and fitter he could have won it.
im not knocking the guy im sure he knows himself if he was thinner and fitter he wouldnt have tired like he did
any predictions for the champions league final
3-1 to utd is my prediction
mackers
i have to go along with you there mackers. fancy utd meself. barcelonas defence dont look too hot
johnnboy
Mandingo Chief looks the bet today folks (4.55)
