Colm Murphy has snapped up the services of Robert Thornton to ride Big Zeb in the Seasons Holidays Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham next week.

Thornton rode Voy Por Ustedes to win the two-mile championship in 2007 but is available for selection as Alan King's eight-year-old is this year set to line up in the Ryanair Chase.

Big Zeb schooled at Leopardstown racecourse on Monday morning and Murphy was delighted with what he saw.

"Big Zeb worked a mile and a half with the rest of the team but we also popped him over five fences and we were very happy with him," said the County Wexford handler.

"We have booked Choc Thornton to ride him so that has worked out well thankfully. He has a lot of experience of riding round at Cheltenham so it's grand.

"We are under no illusions as we head over there to take on Master Minded, but if we could pick up some place prize-money that would be great."

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez says his side would be closer to Manchester United in the title race were it not for injuries to Fernando Torres.

Did Utd not have Ronaldo out at the start of the season with broken foot and Rooney has been out with hamstring injury too but did not make excuses.

No more excuses from Rafa.
Sack him and the board

You were on a double then. The MK Dons game is declared void.

I backed MK Dons and Swindon too as well as Bristol City whose game was postponed.

Honda Classic starts this week in U.S.A.

McIlroy is 16/1 but the bet of the week is the in form Stuart Cink 28-1.Great each way bet which pays the top 5(and he has an early tee time Thursday so gets the best of the greens)

What do you think about Justin Leonard at 30/1?? I think that is a great bet!

Anonymous said...

Davis Love starting to play well again Fred at the minute.

40/1 looks a nice price also

mackers

Audere Est Facere,Leonard should play well there. It is a tough course and he is known as a grinder and a great putter.

My other fancy apart from Cink is Luke Donald. He has been impressive since returning start of season from injury and finished 2nd there last year.He is 28/1.

Fred The Red

Audere Est Facere(c) said...

Fred,

I was looking at Donald too but didn't he injure his wrist again at the Matchplay? He did say it wasn't as serious as before but it put me off straight away!!

Barstool said...

Never really been a gambler on the golkf, mainly because I know little about it apart from watching the odd major. SO may have a little dabble on a selection or 2 you chaps are putting up, theres always at least 1 of you not far away each time

Audere Est Facere(c) said...

Barstool

It's tough to get a golf winner but I really only bet on the Majors just to as an interest while I watch.
I remember having £10 on Vijay Singh at 12/1 to win the US Open a few years back. I stayed up until after midnight to watch him win a 3 way play-off, I think Stuart Appleby was one of the other players involved, where he played some great golf.
I also had £10 on Padraig Harrington at 25's to win the British Open when he won it. I thought he'd thrown it away going into the water twice in the play-off with Garcia but he pulled it off.

I normally back each-way now but as I said I only do it for an interest.

Audere Est Facere(c) said...

Champion Hurdle fav Binocular has drifted out to 13/8 with Bet 365.

I have said, and have been laughed at by some for saying it, that you will be able to get AT LEAST 2/1 about Binocular on the day.

Anonymous said...

Barstool follow the lad who does the major golf writeups in the andytown news.I think he has napped the last lot of winners and has had about 4 each way naps finish in top 4 also.If i remember right he had a 80/1 and 66/1 shot also.

Davitts lads

Barstool said...

if & I mean IF binocular does drift to around 2/1 mark even I may have a play but at the minute is too short for me. No doubting the horse is quality however.

Katchit e/w is superb value at minute I feel. Hasn't had too much to shout about of late but tends to come to life around this time of year, especially at Cheltenham.

Anonymous said...

Audere Est Facere(c)you only bet in the golf for an interest.

Don't talk stupid mate.
Everyone backs to win

Audere Est Facere(c) see the irish open golf will be played in Baltray(co louth) this year May 14th - May 17th . Mc Ilroys first tournament back from his stint in the states.Harrington and all the big guns have signed up to play also.
Only about 50 miles from belfast, great day out. They are expecting 60-80,000 people there this year.

Fred The Red

Audere Est Facere(c) said...

Nice one Fred, I'll look out for that.

Barstool

Katchit has to be the value bet. Paddy Power are offering 8/1 Katchit W/O Binocular which is a great price. I don't see any reason why Osana (my bet for the CH last year) should recerse placings with Katchit but probably the dark horse of them all is Sublimity. If the ground is no softer than good to soft he may well surprise a few!!
I, and I'm sure many others will to, will be waiting to see whether JP gets stuck into Binocular, that will be a tip in itself!!

From the Cork preview night....

Ruby Walsh:

Banker - Cousin Vinny
Bismark - Diamond Harry

Davy Russell:

Banker - Kasbah Bliss
Bismark - Diamond Harry

David Nevison (Pro Punter):

Banker - The Package
Bismark - Binocular

Oliver Brady (Trainer):

Banker - Mikael D'Haugenet
Bismark - NONE

From the Haydock preview night....

McCoy: Henderson thinks Binocular is 2 stone better than last year. Dangers are Katchit, Celestial Halo and Osana. Sentry Duty is a decent e/w bet.

Peter Scu: Osana WILL win and Pipe yard are very bullish about Ashkazar (plenty of money for it). (Slightly biased there from Scu??)

McCoy: Cousin Vinny is one to beat in Supreme Novices (if he runs) Michael Flips is good e/w bet.

Jonjo O'Neill: If Cousin Vinny runs he wins!!!!

Angus Loughran: Take value on Cousin Vinny in Ballymore Properties as he may come out of SNH.

On the Arkle they all agreed that it was an open race. Forpaddytheplasterer and I'msingingtheblues put up as e/w bets.

Jonjo O'Neill: Thinks that Wichita Lineman will win whatever race he runs in!!

Angus Loughran: L'ami will win X Country.

Quenn Mother CC: All agreed Master Minded is unbeatable.

Ballymore Property: If Cousin Vinny runs it changes the whole race. All liked Mikeal D'Haugenet and McCoy thinks that the horse will become a 'superstar'!!

RSA Chase: McCoy doesn't fancy Carruthers or Cooldine. Gone to Lunch seemed to be the horse most of them fancied.

Champion Bumper: McCoy likes Sicilian Secrect and Shinrock Paddy

Other horses mentioned...

Peter Scu really talked up Tony Martin's Leg Spinner.

World Hurdle: McCoy said Kasbah Bliss had too much speed and only testing ground would beat him. Jonjo agreed.

Ryanair Chase: All tipped Voy Por Ustedes and McCoy said he can't see how it can be beaten. Dangers - Imperial Commander and Tidal Bay

Gold Cup - All agreed Kauto was worthy fav but McCoy said Denman is nowhere near the same horse as last year.

All mentioned how good of a chance Madison Du Berlais had in the GC.

What chance would any of us have given Boro at home to Liverpool last week??

Did you know that you can not do a corect score and pick a player to score the last goal, it has to be the first goal only. a bookie in dublin refused my bet for chelsea to win 3/1 and drogba last goal, so that means that ladbrookes and easwoods have been taking my money for years on this type of bet. of course i have never touched and if i had it would have been void. so why have they been taking my money all this time. i think you should warn others or is it just me that did not know this. i would say that the bookies owes me about £500.
