I TIPPED my old school chum Martin Rogan (left) at 4/1 to beat Audley Harrison at the backend of last year and he did us proud with a easy points victory.
It seems every punter on the road backed him to leave the local bookmakers reeling that weekend.
He faces English hope Matt Skelton on Saturday night at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena.
I remember way back when the two of us were in C1 and C2 at St Paul’s.
I taught Rogie all the bobbing and weaving that made him the boxer he is today, so if it wasn’t for me old handlebar shorts, Rogie would have advertising on his soles (believe that, folks, and you’d believe anything).
The Entertainer has fight stats of 11-0 with five stoppages in those eleven fights. Can he make it 12-0 come Saturday?
The man oozes confidence and is open about his main aim – to become Ireland's second heavyweight world champion more than 100 years after the last Irishman to hold the greatest prize in boxing. Peter Maher was awarded the title by retired champion Jim Corbett after beating Steve O'Donnell.
Matt Skelton is a big, bruising fighter and this could be the brawl of all brawls. Sean Graham price Skelton as the overwhelming 1/6 favourite with big Martin priced at 4/1, which is again sure to be snapped up by local punters. Would you bet against the big man? No, neither would I.

McIlroy has been in great form of late but Hunter Mahan is a far better golfer and should win this one today!
Punters are piling into Wales ahead of Friday's pivotal RBS 6 Nations match against France in Paris, Ladbrokes have reported.
The firm have taken five times as many wagers on the visitors as their hosts, including a £20,000 bet at 6/4 on the Welsh to be winning at half-time and full-time.
And following coach Marc Lievremont's decision to gamble on his fly-half and scrum-half pairing, customers are confident the reigning champions are on course for more success.
Ladbrokes spokesman Robin Hutchison: "When the fixtures came out this looked like a potential banana skin for Wales, but punters are very confident they can continue their good run of form in Paris."
Ladbrokes struck the £20,000 bet with an internet customer in North London. The firm laid a bet of the same amount to an internet customer in Northern Ireland on Wales beating England a fortnight ago at odds of 2/9
Ireland's Ronan O'Gara is 4/9 to score more points than England's Toby Flood on Saturday and 3/1 not to miss a penalty or conversion all game.
The Irish are 10/1 to beat their opponents by a bigger margin than they did at Croke Park in 2007 (43 pts) and 6/1 to score more tries (4) in that fixture.

Liverpool are 15/2 for the Champions League. with Sky Bet after taking the advantage against Real Madrid.
Rafa Benitez's side will take a vital 1-0 lead back to Anfield thanks to Yossi Benayaoun's late winner at the Bernabeu.
Chelsea also have a 1-0 lead going into their second leg at Juventus and they are on offer at 11/2 with Sky Bet.
The result proved profitable for followers of the Bettingzone as football expert Chris Hammer tipped both a win to nil for the Blues at 2/1 and Didier Drogba to open the scoring at 6/1.
Bayern Munich were the most impressive winners on the night and they are 10/1 for the trophy after they thumped Sporting Lisbon 5-0 in the Portuguese capital.
Barcelona and Manchester United are Sky Bet's top two in the betting and are 11/4 and 9/2 respectively.
The firm also make it even money that there is an English winner of the Champions League this season - 11/5 from Spain, 6/1 from Italy and 10/1 from Germany.

Audere Est Facere! mahon is better than mcilroy???? really???
the boy wonder is 17th in the world
mahon is 48th
the rankings do not lie
Fred the red
Ernie Els is 14th and Jim Furyk is 15th in the World rankings but there at least 5 golfers above each of them who are nowhere near as good as them.
We'll see how Mahan and McIlroy get on later!!
Audere Est Facere, its ok saying "3 years ago ernie els was good" or jim furyk was good.
Furyk has not won a tournament since 2006 and els is past his best. They are both slipping down the rankings because they do not do it consistently.
The rankings do not tell lies as i said. All the good talent like mcilroy, garcia, stenson, karlson,
Villegas,Kim are climbing the rankings for playing consistently well.Els and Fyryk are on the
slide for not producing the goods week in week out
Fred the red
You back McIlroy then, my money is on Mahan!!
OK PUNTERSGUIDE!
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
Just bought the paper and to my surprise you have napped Utd to get beat again. Its getting pretty boring mate you napping Utd to draw or get beat every big game they have.Change the record.People in Davitts are just laughing at the column now.Come on,this column used to be worth the price of the paper alone.Time for a change maybe?
Davitts lads.
surely he is entitled to his opinion?
Barstool
Some people just don't get it. You tip who you fancy and that's it, not everyone is going to agree with it but why moan like a big f***ing womEn about it??
If you fancy Man U then back them but if someone fancies them to get beat stop crying FFS!
Who asked you Barstool?
all we are saying here is that we all love his column and blog but he is being repetitive saying utd will draw or lose every big game
Davitts Lads
here, here Barstool
Joe C
well said davitts lads
Mackers
Audere Est Facere or Liam.
Good to see you back abusing people.
Raffo
Puntersguide has been know to be a bit anti utd down the years but it does utd no harm, they continue winning !
Webber
Audere Est Facere , do you not think mcilroys walker cup experience will play a big part in his match today?
Fred the red
Listen enough is enough against the PG!
I have pic's of him at a Man Utd game two years ago when they played Spurs - He was in the strafford end and wearing a Utd scarf - this guy is a secret Man Utd supporter - ask any of his mates from the Springfield
Sharp-Eyes
Fred
I'm sure it will help him, as will Hunter Mahan's Ryder Cup experience!!!
Some of that last comment is actually true - I was at a Utd game against Spurs as a neutral! no Utd scarf though!
To the Davitts guys,
As you lads I like a bit of value, that's why I have the odd pint in your club. IF Utd where 9/2 on sunday I would back them - I like backing the underdog! SIMPLE - it pays off sometimes! but I haven't got a thing against the best team in the world - seriously!
that should have said currently the best team in the world - oops!
Like the look of Donnas Palm in the big race at Thurles today - 4/1 shot!
Audere Est Facere,Could do but his 1 pga win in nearly 7 years will probably count against him against one of the most exciting golfers to hit the big time in decades
Fred The red
Like I said Fred, lets wait and see what happens! It will be a great match to watch but I just think that Mahan will be victorious.
Each-way double today, these horses have been tipped up by a very well known internet tipster whose strike rate is very good....
MILESIAN KING 16/1 - 4.50 Ludlow
IMPERIAL SUN 12/1 - 5.00 Taunton
Davitts ladies
You say he is being reptitive not tipping united to win.....are you not being reptitive going on & on about PG not selecting Man U?
Betting is about opinions, this blog is about opinions....dry the eyes
Barstool

why doesnt PG just tip utd to win
every trophy. Tip them to beat Rogie while your at it plus my wee boy is running in the egg and spoon race in school,so tip utd to win that too. Davitts must be full of aul women (rough luking as they are)who do nuthin but yap if anyone else has a different view. i think their brains are as pickled as their livers
johnnyboy
No bother Gerard! Thanks!
There are very strong rumours that Denman will not run in this years Gold Cup. He is drifting on Betfair and he is currently priced at 13/2!!!
Well done Fred, McIlroy ended up victorious in a very tight battle. Being 2 down on the 13th hole he played some nice golf and holed some cracking long puts to win 1 up.
I'm sure he's glad the Tiger was beat too!!
some shock results last night!
