Friday night stunner for Sean Grahams

Sean Graham took a hefty double hit when two punters selected the same four horses on Friday night to the leave the local layers over three grand out of pocket.
The two punters placed their bets in Andersonstown and Whiterock respectively.
The Whiterock punter did a 50p Lucky 15 whilst the Andersonstown punter placed a 50p Yankee.
Both bets got off to a flyer when RIDGEWAY DANCE (5/1) overturned the favourite in the 7.50 race at Wolverhampton.
DREAM DATE (8/1) went on to make it two from two for the punters and just 30 minutes later they both ha three selections up when GUILDERSTERN (11/2) made it two wins in three days to leave our punters on one hell of a sweat.
The tension was unbearable in Andytown and Whiterock.
MAHADEE (11/4) didn’t even give them a sweat, absolutely hacking home under JP Spencer – the Yankee punter picked up £1,168.25 and the Lucky 15 punter picked up £2,042.73.
What a great piece of punting by both punters, and good luck to them.

Northern Ireland teenager Rory McIlroy shot an eight-under par 64 to lead the Dubai Desert Classic before bad light brought a premature end to round one.

The 19-year-old sank nine birdies to lead by one shot from Sweden's Robert Karlsson who carded a bogey-free 65.

Former Masters and Open champion Mark O'Meara says 19-year-old Ulsterman Rory McIlroy's ball-striking is better than that of Tiger Woods at the same age.

O'Meara was fulsome in his praise after playing alongside McIlroy, who shot 64 at the Dubai Desert Classic.

"Ball-striking wise at 19 he's probably better than Tiger was at 19," he said.

"His technique I think is better and there's no reason why he can't win quite a few tournaments and a lot of major championships. He's got it."

Non-league Ebbsfleet United have made history with the signing of Brentford defender Darius Charles.

The Blue Square Premier club is owned by fans' website MyFootballClub, whose 32,000 members voted in favour of spending £25,000 on the 21-year-old.

It is the first time the club has recruited a player in this way.

The money for Charles, who has had two previous spells on loan at the club, came from the £140,000 sale of striker John Akinde to Bristol City in August.

The club's membership paid £35 a year ago to help purchase Ebbsfleet and be able to vote on major decisions.

They can have their say on team selection, vote on player transfers as well as other decisions affecting the club.

In July last year, striker Michael Gash's move was aided by a MyFootballClub initiative, which raised £20,000 for manager Liam Daish to invest in his squad.

And in September, the decision to sell Akinde was also voted on by the website's members.

Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Denman is set for his first run in 11 months in the Aon Chase at Newbury on Saturday.

The defending champion has not been seen in public for almost a year since being treated for a heart problem.

But trainer Paul Nicholls will keep an eye on the weather, with Sunday's Irish Hennessy or a trip to Ascot or Wincanton also options.

"We could do with a dry spell but if he goes to the Gold Cup without a run, so be it," said Nicholls last week.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has made Robbie Keane his side's new captain following the striker's return to White Hart Lane from Liverpool.

The 28-year-old Republic of Ireland star re-signed for Spurs only six months after leaving for Anfield and takes the armband from Ledley King.

"I just felt with Robbie coming in there would be a new impetus with him as captain," said Redknapp.

fair comment marty but my point is that its easy to support a team thats winning things. god knows enough utd men suddenly sprouted up outta nowhere about 92 and 93. theres only so many trophies to be won and not everyone, big teams included, can win them. so if you support a team thats outside the big four you tend to get dicks who look down their nose at you as if its them whose actually playing. at the same time, if all the other teams in the premiership were allowed to accrue the 1 billion pound of debt that man utd and liverpool have between them, then they too would have a chance at winning things.

We are second in the league. Two points behind Man U. (although they have a game in hand, the points have to be earned.)

This is the closest since ......

FA Premier League 2001-02
Pos Team Pl W D L F A GD Pts
1. Arsenal 38 26 9 3 79 36 +43 87
2. Liverpool 38 24 8 6 67 30 +37 80
3. Manchester United 38 24 5 9 87 45 +42 77

We have no worries of fulfilling FA and League Cup Fixtures for the rest of the season.

Manager who knows his own mind and sticks with his decisions.

No major long term injury worries.

We are beating or not losing to top 6, Beat Chelsea (2), Man U, Everton plus draws with Arsenal, Villa and Everton

Liabilities

No Established (out and Out) Striker other than Torries.

The Sale of Robbie Keane (was Liverpools second highest scorer before Chelsea Match)

Too Many players with not enough quality to challenge for the title.

Very weak Bench to chose from, no dept in squad.

The lack of being able to beat weaker teams. Stoke (2), Fulham, West Ham, Hull, Spurs, Wigan

The dependancy on Stevie G

The Manager having to much to say, ranting is getting him nothing more but unneeded attention.

A sensational fall at the last aboard Miss Sarenne when five lengths clear denied Tony McCoy a 3,000th career jumps win in the 1545 GMT at Plumpton.

McCoy had partnered Hello Moscow to a hard-fought victory in the 1510 to bring up the 2,999th win of his career.

And he looked odds-on to secure victory on Miss Sarenne before the horse's dramatic slip at the last allowed 5-1 shot Quaspia to storm to the line.

McCoy has a final run at Plumpton on Restless D'Artaix in the 1620.

Chelsea have announced that Guus Hiddink will take over as temporary coach until the end of the season.

The Premier League club have also revealed that the 62-year-old Dutchman will meet the players later this week.

"The club would like to take this opportunity to thank the Russian Football Union for their understanding and cooperation," said a statement.

Hiddink, who will continue to coach the Russian national side, replaces Luiz Felipe Scolari, who was axed on Monday.

The former PSV Eindhoven and Real Madrid coach is currently in Turkey with the Russia squad and is likely to be a spectator at Chelsea's FA Cup fifth round tie at Watford on Saturday, with the Premier League clash at Aston Villa on 21 February expected to be his first in charge.
