Punter grabs a grand with a £1 bet

A mystery Whiterock punter took trainer David Pipe’s advice on Saturday and ended up winning over a grand – for a quid!
Trainer Pipe has just started writing a column in the Daily Mirror’s Saturday racing pull-out and he mentioned all his horses that were due to run that day – our punter followed his advice.
The punter placed 3 x 20p doubles and a 40p treble (outlay £1) on the English trainer’s selections.
It all started brillantly when Consigliere won the 12.50 at Towcester at 12/1 after drifting from 7s.
It got better when another Pipe drifter GREAT ENDEAVOUR (11/2) won the stayers’ hurdle in the 1.20 at Towcester, staying on dourly to collect the prize.
The sweat was on for our punter, who had alread banked a few quid, and he had to wait for the big race, the Hennessy, which went off at 2.40.
The PG Selection for the race, Air Force One, looked to have the race in the bag jumping the last but the battle-hardened MADISON DU BERLAIS slugged it out better and won at 25/1, to the delight of our punter who won £1,023.10 – not bad for a £1 outlay. Christmas sorted!
On Saturday night a Hannahstown punter grabbed a £15 double which paid out over £1,700.
He took SUITS ME in the last at Kempton and the front-runner hacked up at 6/1.
He had £105 riding on his final selection and wasn’t let down as STASH ran out a game winner in the 8.20 at Wolverhampton, returning at 16/1. Our punter picked up £1,785.
Last bet to mention this week is from lower Falls punter James Marley who follows Tony McCoy religiously every Saturday – it paid off big-time at the weekend.
He took four of the champion’s rides in a £1 Lucky 15 and they all came in. SHOULDHAVETHAT got the ball rolling at an early 9/2 price and PETIT ROBIN made it a profitable day, winning at another early 1/1 price. DUC DE REGNIERE made it a treble, winning the hurdle race at 9/1 and the sweat was on.
CLASSIC FIDDLE hacked in at an 11/2 early price for James and he told us that Christmas is paid for thanks to that man McCoy. James picked up £1,929.30. Very sweet.

Did a double with the 2 above horses. TAROTINO went off Evs jf and got stuffed by the other joint fav. WIZARD OF EDGE, who I got at 11/2, won at a well backed 11/4 shot (opened 9/2).

Maybe next time.

Roy Keane was one of the greatest players I have ever seen for both club and country. Not only because he was a fellow Spurs fan as a kid but because of his sheer ambition to win every game whether it was a 1st round League Cup game or an F.A Cup final. He spoke his mind as both a player and a manager and I respect him for that. He's right up there with the Bobby Charlton's, George Best's, Eric Cantona's etc. as one of the greats of Old Trafford.
I watched his spat with Patrick Vieira in the tunnel on You Tube last week and it just epitomised Roy Keane. Defending his team mates and standing up to the cowards who pick on the more fragile players. Great player, great person.
