CHUCKERS WIPEOUTS and reigning champions DVLNI scraped through to the quarter-finals last week – and we do mean scraped!
What a week we have this week with the Andytown News printroom taking on our newsroom. It’s been a week of heckling in the building to say the least. I have tried to stay neutral but it’s been hard with massive side-bets being placed.
Kevin ‘The Charmer’ McCabe goes head-to-head with Squinter, the guy he sacked from the printers’ team last year. He has enrolled the help of his inky pals Kieran ‘Steepledowns’ Sloan, Conor ‘Dome of Delight’ Vernon, Dermy ‘Black Eyes’ Ó Tuama and brillant stats man Bo who is the new addition to this well-drilled betting team.
Charmer McCabe can’t wait until the weekend and has promised PG readers FOUR winners this weekend. “Squinter and his newshounds have more time on their hands than my hard-working squad, so that’s a worry, but we are seasoned punters and we can’t wait until Monday to rub their noses in it.”
Squinter sticks with a winning team – Ciarán ‘Bad News’ Barnes, Anthony ‘the Neekster’ Neeson and Conor ‘Tyrone Minus 3’ McLoughlin. “From what we can see in the canteen the printers gain all their insight and analysis from page 3 of the Daily Star,” says Squinter. “Meanwhile, we’ve been dissecting the stats and crunching the numbers – this quad won’t be beaten.”
BMG PRINTERS SELECTIONS: Wolves 5/4, Hearts 5/6, Man City (draw) 11/5, Coventry 1/1
QUAD ALMIGHTY SELECTIONS: Reading 8/13, Oldham 6/4, Carlisle 5/6, Wigan 11/10.
The second challenge this week sees the Glenhill punters taking on SHORT-CERTS in what looks a very hard one to call.
Glenhill Punters are one of the favourites after delivering a devastating 23-1 winning quad in the qualifiers but word reached the Guide that Charlie Murray and the boys hadn’t a shekel on it – mind blowing!
The four shamfeul punters are Charlie ‘The Gunner’ Murray, Eamon ‘The Scouser’ Kyles, Seamy ‘Worst Golfer in Ireland’ Dobbin andKevin ‘Mackerel’ Toland who all failed to cash in last time but have a free Sean Graham £25 bet on their selections this time around.
Charlie told the PG: “We are the form team. I know their captain, Joe Campbell, and the last time he got a bet up Liam Brady was playing for the mighty Arsenal.”
They take on big Joe Campbell’s Short-Certs team who used to be a team to be reckoned with a few years back, but have failed to reach the quarter-final stage since the PG Cup started.
Joe includes big-time punters Sean Prenter, Big Doc and Gerard Toman in his team and they are ready to cause a few shocks this year.
The confident captain told the Guide that it will be a breeze at the weekend: “I know these Glenhill Punters very well and if they play football the way they punt then bring on the quarter-finals.”
GLENHILL PUNTERS SELECTIONS: Liverpool 5/4, Walsall 11/8, Scunthorpe 1/1, Brentford 4/6.
SHORT-CERTS SELECTIONS: Portsmouth 4/6, Wigan 11/10, West Ham 4/5, QPR (draw) 9/4

I did that quad I posted earlier but I got greedy and stuck in Wislaw Krakow to beat Spurs tomorrow afternoon. Chelsea were the only team to let me down on Wednesday night. If they had have won I'd be waiting on Krakow for £258. Back to the drawing board for the weekend!!

Alhaque is as short as 11-8f for the first race at Newmarket but as soon as I saw the jockey booking I knew that I would be taking this horse on. If ever there was a jockey who could get a well fancied horse beat then Jamie Spencer is your man. Already this season I have seen him give a well backed fav far too much to do and only get beaten by a short head and getting boxed in on another hot fav in a 5 HORSE RACE!!!
ROMAN GLORY looks the one to take him on with in the first at around 13-2.

a wee bit of horse-racing
A few winners last week at Ascot and hopefully another few to add this weekend – which, for me, is the best weekend flat racing of the year.
We have Champions weekend at Newmarket on Saturday and then it’s on to the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on Sunday. We start our weekend review at Newmarket on Friday with the Cheveley Park Stakes (2.40) and what a puzzling two-year-old race this is to work out.
We have opted for recent Ayr winner Aspen Darling (8/1) to beat the big boys after hacking up at the Scottish track.
The big race on Friday is the Shadwell Middle Park Stakes (3.15) and if MASTERCRAFTSMAN turns up then get on – if he doesn’t then take GALLAGHER (5/1) to finally get his head in front after a string of second places.
On to Saturday and we begin with the totesport.com Cambridgeshire Heritage Handicap (3.50) which we have narrowed down to two from a massive field.
YADDREE (10/1) hails from the very much in-form Michael Jarvis yard and beat a classy looking field at Newbury, so should be thereabouts coming to the final furlong. MIDSHIPS (20/1) comes from another in-form stable with Linda Perrat having her horses at the top of their game at the minute. This won over the course last month and looks a big each-way choice.
The French-trained DARJINA (4/1) could be the one to be on in the classy looking Chariot Stakes (3.15).
We finish on Sunday with the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp and what a race we have in store. The betting is led by the brilliant unbeaten filly ZARKAVA at 15/8 and it’s going take some horse to stop her on Sunday.
The big dangers are the Aidan O’Brien pairing of Duke of Marmalade and Soldier of Fortune.
Our each-way bet in the race is GETAWAY who looks way too big in the betting at 16/1 and has big place claims; don’t rule out last year’s ruuner-up YOUMAZIN at 10/1.
They Bet: Zarkava (15/8), Duke Of Marmalade (4/1), Soldier Of Fortune (11/2), Vision D’Etat (8/1), Youmzain (12/1), Getaway (16/1), Meisho Samson (20/1), Frozen Fire (25/1), Casual Conquest (25/1) , Papal Bull (25/1), Russian Cross (25/1) and it’s 33/1 bar this lot.
