WHAT a performance from Sea the Stars in the eclipse at the weekend – a real superstar.
Internet firm Sky Bet have priced up a Sea The Stars v Fame And Glory re-match bet for the pair’s eagerly awaited rematch in the Irish Champion Stakes in September.
The first two home at Epsom are set to clash for the second time at Leopardstown and Sky Bet make Sea The Stars 1/2 to confirm classic superiority over 6/4 shot Fame And Glory and to be honest I can’t see Aidan O’Brien’s inmate reversing the form.
JULY CUP
On to the weekend action and we start with the JULY CUP at Newmarket on Friday and as usual there’s a bunch of top class sprinters going to post for this Group 1 event.
The betting market is led by at 11/8 by easy King's Stand Stakes winner and the American trained Scenic Blast who was well backed that day and prevailed by just under a length from Fleeting Spirit.
Globetrotting JJ THE JETPLANE run in the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and was all the rage to win with punters piling on but the 5/2 favourite failed to sparkle on the day finishing fourth to Art Connoisseur.
We expect bigger things from JJ on Friday and think he is the one who could give the favourite a fright. He is in good form according to jockey Kevin Shea who is expecting a better showing as well, and he trades with Grahams at 8s.
Sean Graham bet: Scenic Blast 6/4, Paco Boy 5, Art Connoisseur 6, Fleeting Spirit 8, J J The Jet Plane 8, Takeover Target 10, Main Aim 14, African Rose 16, Kings Apostle 25, Ancien Regime 40, Equiano 50, Prime Defender 50, Duff 66, Intrepid Jack 100.
IRISH OAKS
It’s Irish Oaks weekend at the Curragh and all the rage has been for English Oaks winners SARISKA who will take some stopping if she turns up at the Kildare track on Sunday.
Runner-up in that race was the Henry Cecil trained Midday and connections will be keeping a close eye on the weather ahead of Sunday's race and if she turns up she could gain revenge.
JOHN SMITHS CUP
On Saturday we have the Johns Smith Cup and always a puzzling race to work out but we like two in this 1 mile 2 contest and first one down is Michael Stoute trained Kingdom Of Fife who won the Zetland at Redcar on his last start and is the one to beat here and he is Sean Grahams midweek favourite for the race at 13/2.
Jermey Noseda’s horses are now starting to show form and the handily weighed CHECKLOW could be the each-way bet of the race at 20/1.
Sean Graham bet: Kingdom Of Fife 13/2, Riggins 7, Aqwaal 10, Desert Creek 10, Moonquake 10, Albaqaa 12, Sirvino 12, Alazeyab 14, Ben Chorley 16 , Bullet Man 16, Nanton 16, Seeking The Buck 16, Sweet Lightning 16, Mull Of Dubai 20, Re Barolo (20), Checklow 25, Lang Shining 25, Mutajarred 25 , Roman Republic 25, Shamali 25.
Golf
Tiger Woods is internet based form Sky Bet's 15/8 favourite to win the Open Championship after he won the AT&T National on Sunday night but the World No.1 still trades at 9/4 with local firm Sean Graham .
The Tournament host saw off defending champion Anthony Kim and held off a last-round charge from Hunter Mahan at Congressional Country Club to collect his third victory of the year by just a single stroke with a final-round three-under-par 67.
In-form Mahan, 40/1 for Open glory, had earlier shot a 62 that matched Kim's course-record round from Thursday and took the American to 12 under, but Woods moved in front with a cracking birdie at the 16th and easily held onto his lead down the final two holes.
Our golfing guru Kevin Officer will be back here next week to give us his review at next weekend’s Open.
BET OF THE WEEK
A local punter took Sean Graham for over two grand at the weekend after touching with a cracking bet in the golf.
The canny punter placed £5 each-way double on MARTIN KAYMER without Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter and took the 28/1 on offer and the German beat Westwood in a tense play-off so his first one up.
He had the £145 in his win part going on to his final selection and what a sweat he got going into Sunday night’s last round of the AT & T.
His selection Hunter Mahan was well off the pace but shot a course record of 62 to put him in contention and he took the 18/1 on offer without Tiger Woods.
As we now know Tiger brilliantly held on to win by a stroke but our punter didn’t care he had just scooped £2,045.00 – great piece of picking.
