Punting duo clean up at Royal Ascot

BET OF THE WEEK

Anybody out there in Hoppy Dobbins last Thursday night at around 5.40? If you where, you would have witnessed two red heads doing a jig and hugging each after the last race at Royal Ascot.
The golfing duo went out for a game of golf on Thursday afternoon and before they heading off to the first tee they placed a 30p Lucky 63 at Royal Ascot – a bet that costs £18.90 with the punting duo picking three horses apiece.
The bet itself got off to an absolute flyer when RADIOHEAD obliged at 9/1 after an inspired ride by JP Spencer.
The bet was off and running and when FLYING CLOUD flew home in the Ribblesdale at 5/1 (the boys where on at 9s) in the next race the boys were quids in.
It was a ‘100/1 dream double’ start and on to their third selection and they took the mighty YEATS to win his fourth consecutive Gold Cup and as we all know the superstar horse did just that and the boys where on at 2/1.
Their luck was to run out in the next two races as INVISIBLE MAN could only finish 13th while Four Winds could manage only sixth.
The duo headed back to Hoppy Dobbins for a pint and to watch their last nag, having already banked over a hundred quid between them but they where in for one shock.
Their last horse COSMIC SUN was their last selection and the boys took the 50/1 price and when it drifted to 66 they didn’t give it much hope.
A furlong out and the boys where on their feet as Cosmic Sun found a gap off the rail and took up the running and kept finding more in the last 100 yards to win by a length. The boys where ecstatic with the win and a few punters in the bar estimated a £5,000 return – it was closer to £9,000 for the guys in the end who are now heading off to sunnier climates after their windfall.
Great to see.

Weekend Racing

THE IRISH DERBY at the Curragh dominates the weekend racing calendar and what a race we have in store on Sunday.
Easy English Derby winner Sea The Stars will bid for the ‘derby double’ at the Kildare track after his cosy success at Epsom.
He put all the rumours to bed that he would not get the one and half miles with that devastating display at Epsom and it’s no surprise to see that he is around even money to follow up at the weekend in the early week markets.
John Oxx said on Tuesday that he might not turn up on Sunday if the ground remains soft but a good week is forecast and I can’t see him missing the race but hold those bets until the weekend.
Fame and Glory will be gunning for revenge at the Curragh and is the big danger to the dual derby winner but will have to improve again to turn the form around on Sunday and is as low as 3/1 while Jim Bolger’s Gana Amras gets a 12/1 quote after he reportedly didn't handle the Epsom track but it looks the same 1-2 for us for Sunday’s derby.
Sean Graham bet: Sea The Stars (11/10) , Fame And Glory (5/2) , Masterofthehorse (4) , Gan Amhras (16) , Golden Sword (20) , Mourayan (20) , Recharge (33) , Freemantle (50) , Ard Na Greine (100) , Drumbeat (100) , The Bull Hayes (100) , Rockhampton (200) , Hail Caesar (250) , Malibu Bay (250) , Byzantine (500) , Loch Long (500) , Set Sail (500)
PRETTY POLLY STAKES
On Saturday the big race at the Curragh is the Pretty Polly Stakes for the fillies and what a race this looks look on paper with the early week betting market wide open with three horses sharing favouritism.
English raiders Dar Re Mi and Look Here along with the John Oxx trained Katriya lead the early week market all priced at 3/1 but for us, Coronation Stakes third LOOK HERE looks the one to beat.
The Ralph Beckett trained filly who won the English Oaks last season ran a blinding race on his seasonal comeback behind top class horses Ask and Youmazin and looks a cracking bet to follow up on that run on Saturday.
Sean Graham Bet: Look Here (2) , Katiyra (3) , Dar Re Mi (10/3) , Lush Lashes (7) , Roman Empress (20) , Beach Bunny (25) , Jakarta Jazz (40)
NORTHUMBERLAND PLATE
The most puzzling race of the weekend is the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on Saturday which is run over two miles and this is one wide open handicap.
The early week betting has seen flip-flopping favourites but money has come for the Jane Chapple-Hyam's stayer Judgethemoment who is unbeaten in three starts this term and was successful at Royal Ascot last week and will be the one to beat come Saturday.
Other horses attracting support are the Clive Cox trained Electrolyser and Meethaaq have also been popular and were trimmed to 12s from 14s by local layers Sean Grahams.
We have come with two for the race and we start with HENDERSYDE who looks a horse on the upgrade for Walter Swinburn having won both his starts this year and the step up to two miles will not trouble this easy Nottingham winner who gets a 10/1 midweek quote.
GORDONSVILLE from the Jim Goldie yard is our each-way bet of the race and looks in top form judging on his easy Ayr win last time out and he could well run into a place at a big price.
Sean Graham Bet: Hendersyde (8) , Keenes Day (8) , Speed Ticket (9) , Ajaan (10) , Judgethemoment (10) , Wells Lyrical (10) , Electrolyser (14) , Meethaaq (14) , Record Breaker (14) , Friston Forest (16) , Hits Only Vic (16) , Meshtri (16) , The Betchworth Kid (16) , Desert Sea (20) , Tilt (22) , Som Tala (25) , Gordonsville (Reserve) (33) , Carte Diamond (40) , Inchnadamph (Reserve) (40) , Buddhist Monk (50)

Nice winner yesterday with CLOUDY START - 8's in the morning won at 5s.. can we follow up? we have went for DUKEDOM in the 7.00 at the Curragh 12/1 quote

I've backed Sea The Stars on his last two wins and again I think he will be the one to beat on Sunday, assuming he takes his chance, but this time I'm going to opt for FAME AND GLORY to triumph simply because he will handle any softening of the ground better.
Fame and Glory ran a great race behind Sea The Stars at Epsom and he has the beating of Oxx's other horse Mourayan on 2 previous meetins, this also gives him the edge over stablemate Masterofthehorse who finished behind Mourayan previously. Gan Amrahs for Jim Bolger will need to improve if he is to win here but I am siding with Fame and Glory to win for Ballydoyle.

Cheyenne Woods, Tiger's 18-year-old niece, made her LPGA debut on Thursday, shooting a three-over-par 75 in Rochester, New York.

She is the daughter of Earl Woods junior, Tiger's half-brother through Earl senior's previous marriage.

Playing on a sponsor's exemption, Woods birdied the second hole, ending her first round in a tie for 121st place.

"I was a little nervous warming up and getting ready but as I teed off my stomach got a little better," she said.

Woods trails leader Sandra Gal from Germany by 11 strokes in the Wegmans tournament and revealed she had received no special pep talk from her famous uncle.

"I talked to him about a month and a half ago when I got the exemption and he was really excited for me to be playing in this. He was just excited and looking forward to how I would do."

According to the New York Times, quoting the LPGA website, only three African-Americans have held a tour playing card, and none since LaRee Sugg in 2000.

They had 12mm of rain last night plus rain earlier in the week. Sunshine alone does not dry up the ground that quickly, it's the wind that does most of the drying up and according to Oxx himself there hasn't been a breeze since the rain so at best I can't see it being any better than good ground, maybe even good to soft.
