RUSSIAN TRIGGER SET TO SHOOT TO SCOTS VICTORY

Another week, another Grand National and hopefully it’s THIRD time lucky for the PG after not getting near the winner in the English and the Irish Nationals. Sorry, folks.
The ante-post betting in the Scots version is led by the James Moffat-trained Chief Dan George who has been well-backed in the past few weeks with everything coming right for the former Grade One hurdle winner. He loooks the one to beat, but we have come up with two alternatives.
RUSSIAN TRIGGER hails from the very much in-form Victor Dartnall yard and the four-mile trip will not hinder this horse who won the John Smith's Midlands Grand National Handicap Chase in March over the same trip and the 12/1 on offer looks a value bet. Jack Doyle should take the ride on a horse in search of a hat-trick.
Nigel Twiston-Davies has three horses entered at the five-day stage and we like the look of two of them with dour stayer HELLO BUD (33/1) the first one down. He bounced back to form last time out and, like Russian Trigger, has won over four miles. That will be a massive advantage come Saturday and he is our each-way bet in the race
Sean Graham Chief Dan George (7), Nine De Sivola (10), Merigo (12), Russian Trigger (12), Tricky Trickster (12), West End Rocker (12), Dear Villez (16), According To John (20), Gone To Lunch (20), High Chimes (20), Newbay Prop (20), Notre Pere (20), Out the Black (20), That’s Rhythm (20), Coe (25), Companero (25), Miko De Beauchene (25), Irish Raptor (28), Brooklyn Brownie (33), Chiaro (33) – 33s or better the rest.
Today ends the two-day April Newmarket meeting and we should get a few pointers for the Classics to come.

The Henry Cecil-trained Twice Over will take some stopping in the Earl Of Sefton Stakes (4.10) while the Michael Bell-trained REDFORD could well be a good price in the listed Abernant Stakes (3.00).

Russian Trigger pulled out - so we are going for the favourite CHIEF DAN DE GEORGE with Hello Bud still a live each/way bet!

AND THE WEEKEND FOOTBALL SLECTIONS....

IT’S got to that time of the season folks – the studying time, that is – so get those league tables out and see who really needs to win what.
The FA Cup semi-finals dominate the weekend soccer with Arsenal and Chelsea the first to lock horns on Saturday evening, then it’s Man Utd squaring up to in-form Everton at Wembley on Sunday.
Both games are very hard to call and I like the look of two draws in the games at 10/1 the double, but part of me likes the 14/1 double on an Arsenal/Everton final. Whatever, hopefully two good games lie ahead for armchair punters.
PG FIVEHIT
In the Championship we are down to the final three games and a WOLVES (4/7) win at home to QPR will see them get promoted to the Premiership and they are our first team down in our odds-on Fivehit.
ASTON VILLA (4/6) can keep the pressure on Arsenal if they beat West Ham while READING (8/13) need a win badly at home to Barnsley to keep their slim hopes of automatic promotion alive.
PETERBORO (1/2) suffered a set-back at Millwall on Monday night but should bounce back at home to Stockport – a win should all but seal their automatic promotion.
Making up the odds-on five are WYCOMBE (4/7) who need a win to keep alive their automatic promotion aspirations and should collect all points at the expense of Aldershot.
PG QUAD
On to the weekend PG Quad and we start with our banker bet which is MIDDLESBORO (6/5) for the second week running. Again they need three points and can get them at the expense of Fulham.
BIRMINGHAM (11/10) are on the ropes as they chase automatic promotion and should win at Watford to keep their Premiership dreams alive.
SOUTHAMPTON (2/1) are in deep trouble on and off the field and need a win badly at mid-table Sheffield Wednesday and we are banking on a Saints win.
NOTTINGHAM FOREST (1/1) are another team fighting for survival and can grab a vital win over ‘safe’ Coventry.
PG XXX
Our draw treble has been out of form for the last few weeks so hopefully we can bounce back big style this weekend. Plucky BOLTON look a good bet to grab a point this weekend when they travel to Fratton Park to take on PORTSMOUTH. STOKE and PORTSMOUTH battle it out at the Victoria Ground and both teams would be happy with a point in this one.
WALSALL and HUDDERSFIELD are both safe and on current form it’s hard to split them and a draw looks the likely outcome on Saturday.

Any fancies today PG? Gonna have a punt on that GREEN AGENDA at Thirsk with IMCO SPIRIT tonight at Dundalk. I wouldnt be a follower of the golf at all but yiz hit the crossbar there didnt yiz? Would be intrigued to hear of anyones opinion on the snooker which starts tomorrow. I might take Neil Robertson e/w for an interest. I think an outsider is overdue. It happens every clatter of years or so in the snooker

Last two bloggers - totally agree with you

those two horses look a good investment and Allen has to worth a punt in the snooker - I like Selby as well and will have a few shillings on both players -

orragh, the each-way pays 1/2 the odds for the final. im taking Robertson at 25s, Selby is 2nd or 3rd fav. Not sure bout Allen, think he was 33s. the snookers good in the 1st round for the correct scores. Tends to have a good few 10-9 or 10-8 results

Selby is 15-2. Allen is 33-1. Both in sean grahams. Pretty open this year. Its not necessarily the most skillful who wins the world title, its the person who shows the biggest balls over the fortnight. Think of joe johnson or graham dott or even Parrott. How those guys got their name on the trophy instead of White is a travesty.
