I DON’T about you, but I thought the first soccer betting weekend of the New Year was a bit dull to say the least.
Matches galore off and the FA Cup Third round was a bit of a bore. I saw one local layer went 7/5 the Big Four in the Premeirship to win – one guy placed a whopping two grand on it and we all know what happened to Chelsea at home to Southend. Bookies rarely get these specials wrong.
A mystery Falls Road punter was left reeling on Saturday afternoon after a boob on the vidiprinter on Sky’s ever-popular Gillette Soccer Saturday.
Our punter, as always, took a chance with his usual weekend quad. He took four outsiders and permed them with 4 x £15 trebles and a £15 quad – total outlay £75.
First team down were HARTLEPOOL (7/2) who easily accounted for Premeirship side Stoke (2-0) in the early kick-off so the bet was off and running.
He took HAMILTON (12/5) to beat high-flying Aberdeen in the SPL and they did just, that easing to a 2-0 victory.
TORQUAY (4/1) was his next selection and the non-league team pulled another shock off against Championship side Balckpool and already our mystery punter had banked £918 and one selection still to come.
He took AIRDRIE (4/1) and it looked good as they took the lead in the second half with a Simon Lynch goal on 68 minutes then in the 86th minute it flashed up that Airdrie were 2-0 up thanks to an Elliot goal – our punter was in betting heaven. He had already counted up his £9,000 winnings when it flashed up at 4.55: CORRECTION – Livingston 1 (Elliot 86) Airdrie 1. Our punter was left absolutely devastated.
How do you pick yourself up from that one? Gutting!
On to a Ladybrook punter who went to sunnier climates for the festive period and before he jetted off he placed a £150 six-timer on the Saturday before Christmas.
He took Bolton (13/10), Cardiff (5/6), Norwich (11/10), Leicester (1/1), Stockport (10/11) and Rotherham (8/5).
The wily punter came back on Sunday and called into Sean Grahams on Monday to collect £14,489.50 – what a windfall to come back to.
Another holiday on the horizon? He deserves it!

some good & bad stories there, one to tell the grandchildren in all accounts.
Have the PG selections been made for this week yet Gerard or when they going up. Always like seeing other peoples picks compared to mine.
I've yet to look at the coupon yet but will post selections up later
