PG CHAMPS 2008

Just Champion : Bright Sparks punting duo Eric Savage and Diddler Johnstone lifted the Sean Graham PG Cup last weekend when they overturned hot favourites the BMG Printers in a tense final. Late goals sealed a winning quad for the electric pair and the PG Cup for the Sparks who are pictured receiving £200 worth of Sean Graham betting vouchers. Orlaith Adams of the Belfast Media Group also handed over £138 in winnings from their free £25 Sean Graham bet of last week. So a very good week for the Sparks, and richly deserved. The Printers were gracious in defeat, praising the winning duo for delivering a winning quad under pressure

World Snooker has launched a formal investigation into Jamie Burnett's first-round loss to Stephen Maguire at the UK Championships on Sunday.
Burnett was beaten 9-3 and it has since emerged that several bookmakers stopped taking bets on that exact scoreline well before the match started.
The 33-year-old Scot missed a black in the 12th frame which would have made it 8-4. He denies any wrongdoing.
World Snooker has instructed specialist lawyers to help in the case.

I have no doubt in my mind that this kind of thing has been going on in snooker for a long time now. I have watched the black ball that Burnett missed and to be honest it was quite an easy black for a player of his standard.

Floyd Mayweather Jr's team have apparently approached Ricky Hatton's team about a potential re-match.
This is unbelieveable. I reckon re-matches should only occur when 2 fighters draw or when one fighter wins a close fight but Mayweather destroyed Hatton and in my opinion he will do so again. Both fighters should be chasing pound for pound king Manny Paccquiao, something Hatton is doing at present but by the sounds of this latest story Mayweather wants the easy option of fighting Hatton rather than putting his 0 on the line against Paccquiao.

of course I like it when I and the rest take money off the bookies, thats what we are here for.

Just the way you are going on as if you are fantastic at tipping Hamburg last night, wasn't a hard selection to make, this time round I fancied a draw, & was wrong. Boohoo

I had a sneeky tenner on Portadown last night, I'm not going on about it.

If anyone should be congratulated on their bet last night it seems to me Raffo should! Well done

Making her hurdling debut today with Richard Johnson taking the ride. There are 4 or 5 horses in this race that have good recent form but the step up in trip should suit Cherry Flora and she can make a winning hurdling debut.

Have a punt on Frazer Campbell to score first tonight @ 5/1. He is the only striker available for us tonight and he always puts in a good performance when he plays for us. He also has a decent goalscoring record for us. Do the bet with Grahams who will double his odds if he scores twice!!

Don't think Gareth Bale will play tonight. I can't see him starting anyway.

If your looking for an outside bet then Tom Huddlestone is the one to be on. He likes to have a go from distance and has a good strike on him. He is priced at 16/1.

Evander Holyfield makes his boxing comeback this Saturday when he takes on Nicolay Valuev.

Boylesports make the 7ft Russian the 1/8 fav with Holyfield at 5/1.

To be honest I think it is a joke of a fight but I'm gonna have £20 on Holyfield to win via K.O simply based on the guy's previous experience. The Russian probably should be fav but 1/8 is a joke. It was the same as Audley Harrison against Rogie, Harrison deserved to be fav but 1/2 was a more realistic price not 1/8!! I think Holyfield is the value bet and I actually think he is available at 6/1 in some places.

Liam

Barstool

I will be surprised if O'Hara didn't start and yes, he has scored a couple already this season so he would be a decent outside punt too.

To be honest even if Spurs had have went 4-4-2 and played Bent and Campbell up front I was still going to opt for Campbell as first goalscorer. I really rate the youngster highly and I would love to get him permanently from Man Utd but I think Fergie realises his potential too.
I'll stick with him at 5/1 for the 1st goal tonight and may have a saver on Huddlestone at 16's.

After watching the game live on the net last night I think Frazier Campbell should have had at least 2 goals last night but it was very hard for him up front on his own. Jamie O'Hara and Modric all had decent chances before Gilberto gifted Spartak their opener.
I thought Racing Santander were a good bet last night too. Man City had already qualified and the Prem League on Sunday is far more important to them.

Weekend Racing

Big weekend of racing ahead at Ascot with the BGC Long Walk Hurdle and the rescheduled Boylesports.com International Hurdle being the features on a great Saturday card.
We start our review in the big race and Nicky Henderson-trained horses dominate the midweek betting with Punchestowns and Duc De Regniere leading the markets at 7/2.
We think PUNCHESTOWNS will take some beating on Saturday – he is stepping up in class but his Cheltenham win oozed class and a win on Saturday could see his World Hurdle odds tumble.
We are sticking with KATCHIT for the Boylesports Hurdle and he trades around 9/2.
The Ladbroke Hurdle will probably be the most puzzling race on Saturday and we have narrowed it down to two.
The Nicky Henderson-trained Sentry Duty won with authourity over course and distance in November and he gets a 12/1 quote.
KHYBER KIM looked to have the race in the bag at Newbury last time out but ran out of puff on her seasonal debut. The mare looks a cracking each-way bet at 20/1

Weekend Soccer Selections

We promised our loyal readers a winning bet before Christmas – and as always the PG delivered.
Our XXX selections have been hitting the bar for weeks now, but punters have been regularly claiming 10/1 doubles – if they followed our instructions, that is. We went a step further at the weekend when all three draws came in at 35/1. Local punters piled on with two of our bloggers staking £20. Christmas drinks on the way they tell me.
The big question is, can we follow up this week?
Punters Guide QUAD
We start with our weekend quad and we have opted for BOLTON (11/8) as our weekend banker at home to out-of-sorts Portsmouth who took a thrashing at home last week. Gary Megson’s team are hard to beat at home and hopefully they will get the quad up and running.
NORWICH (11/10) are another team who are hard to beat at home at Carrow Road and we are taking the Canaries to be singing at home to Charlton on Sunday.
Into League One for our next selection and we have opted for SWINDON (11/10) who look too strong for leaky Yeovil.
ABERDEEN (7/4) are at last looking a decent outfit and we are banking on them taking all points at Inverness.
Punters Guide FIVEHIT
We start in the Championship with our odds-on Fivehit with a very much in-form CARDIFF (4/5) team who are starting to climb the table after a good five-match unbeaten run and should be too strong for Sheffield Wednesday.
QPR (5/6) are a hard team to beat at home and we take them for maxiumum points at home to Preston.
HUDDERSFIELD (8/11) are another team running into form and we are taking them to beat lowly Hereford while leaders LEICESTER (1/1) look good value at home to Peterboro.
Making the Fivehit up are managerless BLACKBURN (1/1) who need a win badly and can grab three valuable points at home to Stoke.
Punters Guide XXX
Finally, on to our draw treble and we stay in the Premiership for all of the XXX.
We are taking Sunderland to take a point at HULL – Sean Grahams price it at 12/5.
We are taking the Premiership’s draw specialists Fulham to take a point at home to Middlesboro – Sean Grahams price it at 12/5.
Making the draw treble up is the visit of ASTON VILLA to Upton Park where they take on a WEST HAM side still buzzing from that draw at Stamford  Bridge last weekend – again Sean Grahams price it at 12/5. Remember those doubles as well, folks!

Coventry let me down at the weekend, twice leading and twice throwing it away. I'd have been waiting on Chelsea tonight for near £400!!

Didn't watch the Holyfield - Valuev fight but from what I have heard and read in some reports Holyfield was hard done by. Valuev won on points but apparently it was Holyfield who should have been the marginal winner. Like I said, I didn't see it so I can't say how I think it should have went.
In other boxing, Matt Skelton won the European Heavyweight title in Milan and looks set to make his first defence of it against Martin Rogan next year, possibly in the Kings Hall.

Sean Murphy won the UK Snooker Championship in a great match with the unlucky Marco Fu. I watched most of this match and Murphy did dominate but failed to pull away from a gritty Fu. Fu actually went 9-8 infront but Murphy won the next to take it to a decider and then fluked a pink in the last frame to take the match.

Any winners anyone??

Charlie Swann has compared Champion Hurdle fav Binnocular to Istabraq and admits that he will be very hard to beat on the big day in March. Swann said that Binnocular is similar to Istabraq in that he hurdles very well, he's fast over his hurdles, he has speed and he stays, all the things needed to win the big race.

I agree that Binnocular will be very difficult to beat but I still won't rule out Katchit. He is a completely different horse at Cheltenham and in my opinion he is the one to beat.

The referees are starting to do my head in. The FA try to introduce this big Respect campaign yet the referees are still so inconsistent with their decisions. How can Adebayor get sent off yet Julio Arca gets a booking for a far worse tackle? Also, the penalty awarded to Fulham against Boro was a joke. Yes, the ball hit his arm but it was clearly an accidental hand ball and the linesman, who was further from the incident than the ref, was able to award the penalty.
I know ref's are human and will make errors but they need to be more consistent with their decisions as I have seen players getting red cards for petty fouls yet players like Julio Arca only get booked for leg breaking tackles!!

Also had £10 on the PG 5-timer but Oldham beat me in my own footy bet. AH well beggars cant be choosers.

Agree with you Raffo re Adebedonkeys red card, would have been a nasty one if contact had of been made.

Arsenal actually played better with the 10men that the whole time with 11.

Barstool

Anonymous said...

I'm not questioning Adebayor's red card. I only seen his first tackle which was clumbsy and was a yellow card. But the referee's need to be more consistent when Adebayor gets sent off for two clumbsy challenges yet Arca gets a booking for a possible career ending tackle!!
Plus, after sending Adebayor off Howard Webb started to book every Liverpool player for any foul just to try and level things up. He booked Lucas for a foul that never deserved a yellow card. It's pathetic.

A bit of solid info here that has been received from a friend of a friend. This guy knows his stuff about racing.....

12.00 Southwell - CAPPED FOR VICTORY 16/1 Each-Way

Very lightly raced for a 7 year old and due to his American dirt breeding he should handle this track no problem. Open to plenty of improvement and will go very well in a weak contest.

2.15 Fontwell - OR JUANE 5/4 Win

Track and trip suit and has had the one run as a pipe opener this season. Improvement expected and should go very close.

3.30 Southwell - RUNNING BUCK 16/1 Each-Way

Another US bred horse who will handle track. Dropeed down in trip with blinkers on he should run a big race.

Just passing on what I've been told. I'm gonna back all 3 as singles and then do the 2 big priced one's in an each-way double.
