Charlie Mann’s Air Force One looks big race punt

The HENNESSY GOLD CUP (2.40 Saturday, Newbury) is the main feature on our weekend racing calendar and what a puzzler this is.
The betting is led by Big Bucks (around 9/2) from the Paul Nicholls yard, the same yard which, remember, won this race last year when the mighty Denman hacked up.
The money has been coming for AIR FORCE ONE (7/1) in recent weeks after upbeat reports from the Charlie Mann yard. He finished second at Ascot in the United House Gold Cup Handicap Chase behind Roll Along on his seasonal debut and if his jumping stands up he could run his rivals into the ground.
Of the dangers, our each-way bet is ALBERTA’S RUN (14/1) who looked a dour stayer when hacking home in the Royal & Sun Alliance Chase at the Festival. The Jonjo O’Neill horses are starting to run into a wee bit of form and that 14/1 might just disappear by Saturday.
We have the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle on Saturday and the Nicky Henderson-trained Punjabi (6/5) is a warm order for the in-form trainer. The Noel Meade-trained Harchibald loves this race and if he can reproduce old form then he should give Punjabi a scare or two.
We have a great card at Fairyhouse on Sunday and we start with the Drinmore Novice Chase (1.40) and what great novice event this is. We have opted for ARAN CONCERTO (9/4) who looked a wee bit special when winning his chase debut at Navan earlier in the month.
The Hatton's Grace (2.10) will be another Champion Hurdle pointer and in this one CATCH ME (5/2) could put himself in the picture with a win here after fairly bolting up at Navan last time out.
Brave Inca makes his comeback in this race.

I fancy CHARACTER BUILDING for the big race this Saturday. Runs off the same mark as he did in this race last year when he was 3rd behind Denman. We all know what Denman has went on to achieve and there is no Denman or anything like him in this years race so Character Building can go close again. He stays forever and handles the ground so I'll be backing him.

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres will be out of action for two to three weeks after sustaining a hamstring strain in Wednesday's 1-0 win against Marseille.

He let the bet run. He actually stopped watching the game at 2-0 so when he came in this morning he couldn't believe it ended up 2-0.

It’s been the story of the season so far folks, with the local layers still counting their weekend winnings as we went to press.
The big four not only failed to win at the weekend, but they also failed to score and my bookmaker sources tell me that Reading did them a huge favour at the weekend as well.
Big-hitting punters latched on to the Royals, who were 2/5 at home to Southampton, but they lost 2-1, which meant a lot more bets bit the dust.
‘So, the big four all drew at the weekend, then, a mate said to me at the weekend.’ ‘No, Arsenal were beaten 3-0,’ I replied. ‘I was talking about Aston Villa,’ he said. Some funny guys around at the minute.
The misfiring Gunners travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday to take on Chelsea in the second game of Super Sunday.
They are priced as big as 4/1 in places to defeat the Blues on Sunday, and even though they are out of form, I couldn’t bring myself to back against them – instead I’m sitting on the fence and taking the draw at 5/2.
The first Manchester derby of the season is the first game on Sunday and it’s hard to split the teams with City hard to beat at Eastlands; so another draw for us again at 5/2 – that could give us a nice Sunday draw double.
Punters GUIDE Quad
On to our weekend quad and we start with STOKE (11/8) who look a very difficult team to beat at home and we are banking on them taking all points at home to Hull.
It’s FA Cup second round time at the weekend and we hopefully have come up with two winners here. STOCKPORT (13/8) are playing very well at the minute and they should claim a third round place with a win at Gillingham. ROCHDALE (1/1) are another in-form team and they look like a team destined for the third round draw, hopefully with a win at non-league Forest Green.
We go to the Scottish Cup to make our quad up and we have opted for PARTICK (1/1) who travel to Stirling Albion – the fourth round surely beckons for the First Division club.
Punters GUIDE FIVEHIT
On to our odds-on FIVEHIT and we start back in the FA Cup where HARTLEPOOL (4/7) start us off – they should take the honours at Fleetwood.
Southend (1/2) are hard to beat at Roots Hall and I can’t see lowly Luton causing them problems on Saturday.
High-flying WYCOMBE (8/13) travel to Eastwood Town and should progress to the third round.
On to Sunday and we have opted for a LEEDS (4/6) win at Histon in the early kick-off and making the weekend FIVE-HIT up are PORTSMOUTH (5/6) who will find Blackburn rather an easier proposition than AC Milan.
Punters GUIDE XXX
Three draws from the Championship this weekend and we suggest draws in the following games.
Birmingham to take a point at Wolves; Sheffield Utd to draw at Ipswich; and Norwich to grab a point at Sheffield Wednesday .
All the above draws priced at 12/5.
The rest is up to you, as it always is!

Just the one horse I'm backing today....

The 2.40 at Newbury is my favourite type of race. A novice chase with 4 runners where any of the 4 could win. Kicks for Free is the Evs fav but I really fancy the overly priced 11/1 outsider OH CRICK to get his head in front. He's had 2 runs this season where he finished a respectable 4th in the first one and then gave Nicky Henderson's Afsoun (4/11) a real scare when going down by a head. This longer trip should suit and he will have improved for his first 2 runs this season. 11/1 is far too big a price and I will be snapping it up.

Martin Rogan says taxi for Audley Harrison

Belfast taxi driver Martin Rogan aims to end Audley Harrison's world heavyweight title dream on December 6 - but has also offered to give him a lift home after their fight.

Rogan got his crack at Harrison, both 37, after winning three fights in one night to triumph in the first Prizefighter Series in April.

And the Belfast brawler says he will be in even better form at the ExCeL in London next Saturday after turning down a shot at the British
He said: "I never turn down a fare and if Harrison wants a lift after I've bashed him up I'll drive him home for free.

Anonymous said...

Would love to see big Rogie really hurt Harrison. Rogie is more of a fighter than a boxer whereas Harrison is a complete waste of space. I would fancy my own chances against Audley Harrison.
If you watch Harrisons previous fights you will see that he is a coward. He tries to keep opponents away with his long jab but when they get inside and rough him up he panics. Rogie will be in his face from the first bell and I predict a 6th round K.O for him!!

Liam

Anonymous said...

Liam, put your money where your mouth is,Rogan is 4/1 to win the fight and we all know the bookies do not give out odds like that if they think he will win.No one and i mean no one that wins a gold medal at the olympics is a waste of space or a coward. If you are a coward you are in the wrong business.Harrison is a different class of fighter than Rogan. All Rogan is,is a hammer thrower where as Harrison along with his glass chin is a smart boxer who can box and move and jab his way to a win.He will outclass Rogan who is only there for a payday although he does have a big heart. My prediction is for A-Force to stop the predictable and amateurish Rogan early.

Martin Rogan WILL beat Audley Harrison on Sat and I will be having money on. Like I said, Rogan may not have the slick boxing skills of a David Haye or Floyd Mayweather but he has a heart like a lion and a chin like granit. Harrison on the other hand has a chin like glass and the courage of kitten! He is one of the worst boxers I have ever seen and the fight on Saturday will be his last because the British public have had enough of his crap. Rogie will be in his face from the first bell, something Harrison cannot handle and it will put him off his usual plan of jab and run away.

Look lads, it's about time you's stopped arguing with me as I always come out right as you know from previous postings!! I can't wait til Rogie beats Harrison and forces him to retire because he is absolutely useless.

I though this blog was about people posting their sporting opinions, obviously people will disagree with others but these knobs have a go at you as if you have insulted them.

I don't know loads about boxing but I think my opinion on Audley Harrison is echoed by many experts i.e. Barry McGuigan, Steve Bunce, Steve Collins....
Having a solid chin and a big heart whether you are alick or not will get you a long way in boxing and Harrison doesn't have any of the above mentioned. MY OPINION is that Rogie will beat him.

Gerard,

The money you invested on Rogie is a very wise investment IMO. I don't know Rogie personally but my cousin is married to his sister and I know a lot of his family but that is not why I fancy him to win.

Audley Harrison has been a complete failure since turning pro and I would go as far as saying that he has been an embarassment. He does have more boxing skills than Rogie, no doubt about that, but he hasn't got the courage or the heart that Rogie has.
I will be backing Rogie at 7/2 as I think it could turn out to be the bet of the weekend!!

Big step up in class for rogie who really is only an amateurish boxer .He was never a good amateur either come to think of it.He is 37-38 approx and has only fought 10 times totalling 30 rounds. He has only fought 6 rounds once(wait for it)in the mecca of world boxing-the holiday inn in belfast. On the other hand Harrison is a class above being an x olympic champion.A-Force has a pro fight record of 26 fights 23 wins(17k-o's).There is a huge difference in class here.
Theres only one way this fight is going in my opinion and the opinion of the bookies.Harrison win, thats why he is 1/5 on in the bookies.Don't throw your money away on the part time taxi driver/actor Rogan-hes only there for a quick few pounds although anyone can win on a lucky punch.A-Force should and will outbox Rogan who is only a journeyman fighter

Jim Webb

Anonymous said...

You are not Jim Webb. I know Jim Webb and I know that is not his opinion!!

Out of the 26 fights Harrison has won, name me one good, well known fighter!?

Here's their names from his most recent fight back to the first one...

George Arias, Jason Barnett, Michael Sprott, Danny Williams, Andrew Greeley, Dominick Guinn, Danny Williams, Robert Wiggins, Robert Davis, Tomasz Bonin, Julius Francis, Richel Hersisia, Brian Nix, Lisandro Ezequiel Díaz, Quinn Navarre, Matthew Ellis, Ratko Draskovic, Rob Calloway, Shawn Robinson, Wade Lewis, Dominic Negus, Mark Krence, Julius Long, Piotr Jurczyk, Derek McCafferty and Mike Middleton.

Hardly big time fighters. His first fight against Danny Williams was a complete joke. I think there was about 10 punches thrown between them and I'd be surprised if more than 50% of them landed. The whole crowd booed the both of them all night because they were pathetic and Harrison has since carried on in the same way.
Martin Rogan isn't a skillful boxer but I am extremely confident that he can win against A-Farce....soryy, A-Force.

You are talking about a bad amateur fighter here Liam against an former olympic super heavyweight champion.
Of course he has a lucky punchers chance like anyone but with Harrison 1/6 on Rogan has little chance of beating a well rounded fighter. On the other hand Rogan is a well rounded fighter also bout only in his mid rift(too many pints and burgers)

To even mention Lennox Lewis in the same breath as Audley Harrison is laughable. Lennox Lewis was World Heavyweight Champion FFS.
Audley Harrison isn't fit to lace Lewis' gloves.

I think this argument has gone on long enough and all I can say is bring on Saturday night. Even if Harrison beats Rogan it will be a hrad fought win possibly on points, but as the 1/8 fav he should be beating Rogan within at least 4 rounds but that won't happen. Rogan will make Harrison uncomfortable by being in his face every second of every round and that is something Harrison can't cope with.
