Squinter’s band of media punters crashed out with a whimper as the boys in the BMG Printroom proved too strong for the pencil-pushers – maybe they too should start getting inspiration from the Daily Star’s Page 3.
Also through are the Glenhill Punters who ousted the Short- Certs after both only grabbed a single winner but the price rule worked in Glenhill’s favour.
Onwards to this week’s challenges and we have those bickering RVH Trans back, but they have changed their name – and their team.
‘RVH Stores’ are still led by Pat ‘the Chief’ Walsh who wants to be known as a porter and not a store layabout.
He brings in stats man Noel ‘the Mexican’ Marley who you can hear from three miles away when he is cheering on his horses in the Springfield Road bookies.
His aces in the hole are Martin ‘Placepot’ Mulhern and Dee ‘Homer’ Thompson who are widely known soccer punters who always back Cliftonville and Aston Villa (check their first two selections).
Chief Walsh really fancies their chances this year and sees the Bru Crew as no challenge, but has warned his team that they could end up on the bru if it all goes wrong at the weekend.
They take on the Bru Crew, a team of civil servants from Andersonstown who are led by big-time punter Decky Sturgeon who certainly knows his stuff when it comes to football betting. The wee man is not blessed when it comes to playing the beautiful game, my ankles can certainly vouch for that one.
Decky brings in the big-hitters after last year’s abrupt end and in come seasoned gambers Richy Galbraith, Paul Keaney and Feilim Eagleson – a team to be feared? We’ll see at the weekend.
RVH STORES SELECTIONS: Aston Villa 5/6, Cliftonville 7/5, MK Dons 5/4, Chelsea 8/15
BRU CREW SELECTIONS: MK Dons 5/4, Aston Villa 5/6, Ipswich 1/1, Scunthorpe 13/10.
In the second challenge the Whitefort Punters are back and Joe Hughes has rung the changes this year after an early exit last year.
His new-look team this year is made up of a couple of bar staff and a couple of regular punters.
He has recruited bar staff Cricky Mulligan and Joe ‘the Scot’ O'Neill, apparently the only Scotsman who was actually born in Donegal.
Joe’s sidekick as usual is Alec ‘Hell’s Angel’ McAllister and the Whitefort lads expect to upset a few teams this year.
They take on the Coyles Bakery punters which is made of a local punting family.
The team is led by Brian Coyle (Snr) who has recruited sons Brian (Jnr), Patrick and Barry.
“If they want to win a bit of dough this weekend then I urge the PG readers to back our four winners,” a confident Brian told the Guide.
COYLES SELECTIONS: Derby 5/6, Wolves 8/11, Aston Villa 5/6, Birmingham 5/4
WHITEFORT SELECTIONS: MK Dons 5/4, Aston Villa 5/6, Sunderland 11/5, Queen of the South 1/1.
Next Week:
Bright Sparks v The Malones (25 October)
Dairy Farm v Stormont 4 (25 October)
(Team news by 3pm Monday, 20 October and predictions by Tuesday, 21 October – usual rules apply).
Already Qualified: BMG Printers, DVLNI Punters, Glenhill Punters and Chuckers Wipeouts.

Just got a tip for OLD SI in the 4.15 at Punchestown. Apparently the owners are "very confident" of a win. Personally I can't see Ruby's horse getting beat but this tip does complicate things now!!

Not sure what that money is about. First time out mare but is from a good NH family (by Accordian) so someone knows something. Like I said, I would stick with the Meade - Carberry partnership in this race.

I'm glad you're a fan of my tips and have been keeping an eye out for them. Hope you're on Bradley Dredge!!

Always have to be wary of a useful unraced type popping up in the bumpers but im sticking with my selection anyhow. Nina Carberry has won me, & I'm sure alot of you a decent bit if cash over the past season or 2 but in this race today I'll go against her.
P.S Liam, back Hibs at your peril. Edinbrugh derby = draw!

Most of the horses in that bumper are unraced which makes it even more difficult. That's why I would usually side with the trainer's who have good records at getting them ready first time (Willie Mullins and Noel Meade are the kings of this).
Hibs have started well at home this season whereas Hearts not so good awy from home. It will be a tight game no doubt.

Just back from Ladbrokes there, they have brought out a new bet called Striker were you pick ANY 3 players in the premiership and if they all score (at any time) the pay you 11/1. Myself and a couple of the other boys in work are gonna pick a player each every week and through a fiver in each!!

Click on that coupon to the side - just compared Grahams odds to PP - big difference Sean Grahams far superior!

Was that Mark Johnston's horse you backed? If it is I had a look but ended up not backing any in the race, I thought Dettori's mount would be hard to beat. Dettori hasn't looked the same recently and Godolphin haven't been the same for a while now. I can see the boys in blue changing their stable jockey sooner rather than later!!!
Mark Johnston has 2 in the next at Nottingham (1 first time out) and either could win. There is another short priced fav in the race but that man Spencer (bookies jockey) is on board.

I heard that Graham's are giving better odds than both Ladbrokes and PP but when McGranaghans were about Grahams, or very few other for that matter, could match them. Grahams were nearly always shorter than McGranaghans for horses but especially football. Toals seem to be the new McGranaghans now as far as football odds are concerned.
I just spoke to Ronan Graham who was in Ladbrokes picking up a football docket (wtf???) and he seems to think that more and more people are using Graham's.
