Worst tip ever

... or was it the best?

We all get tips from racing to football to golf but one tip I got always stands out..
I remember standing in the Eastwood Bookmakers/Peter Pan in my very early punting days (early 90s) when Doc, a guy I played football with rushed into the pitch and shouted that he got a red hot tip.
Everyone in the pitch assumed a horse - no not big daft Doc, he had got a call from a mate in London who told him that PAUL INCE would open the scoring for Utd that day.
I replied with a straight-face ( the whole pitch was laughing by this stage) Hold on a minute, you are telling me that your mate has told you that Paul Ince is going to score the first goal today -
DOC
Yip! my mate knows his brother and he's taking the penalties today.
Hold on they have to get a penalty first?
DOC I know, but if they do, it's a easy 25/1 winner
The pitch were still laughing at the poor guy. I stuck a fiver on Ince just in case.
In those days there was only radio (how old am I?) and news came through from Old Trafford that there was a goal - I edged closer to the radio - PAUL INCE has just scored for Man Utd from 35 yards..........
I nearly fainted - maybe big Doc wasn't daft after all or maybe he was .
I met up with him that night for a pint and first thing I done was buy him a drink.
Thanks for putting me on to Ince today - he looked glum - what's up I asked, didn't back him mate came the reply. that was Doc in a nutshell - daft!
