It was same old story for our XXX last week as we got yet another 10/1 double up – the rest of our selections are best forgotten about, I think.
FA CUP QUAD
We have FA Cup fifth round action this weekend and that’s where our quad selections are this week.
READING (7/4) have seen off Liverpool and Burnley this year and take on high-flying West Brom, who could well rest a few as promotion is their main aim. So we are taking Brian McDermott’s team to make the quarter-finals.
First Goal: Shane Long 7/1
BIRMINGHAM (11/10) are looking safe in the Premiership and are keen for a run in the FA Cup – they can make the last eight with a win at Derby.
First Goal: Kevin Phillips (11/2)
SPURS (11/10) will be looking some silverware this season and we fancy Harry’s boys to win it this seaon and they can take another step towards that with a win at Bolton.
First Goal: Jermaine Defoe 5/1
We finish the quad at Selhurst Park where ASTON VILLA (4/5) take on debt-ridden Crystal Palace who took Wolves apart in the last round, but Martin O’Neill’s team look a different kettle of fish and should progress.
First Goal: Ashley Young 9/1
PG FIVEHIT
Moving swiftly on the weekends odds-on Fivehit and we start with LEICESTER (4/6) who should take all points against Scunthorpe on their home patch.
MIDDLESBORO (4/7), or Celtic B, look a solid bet at home to strugglers Peterboro and Gordon Strachan’s team should bag three points.
BARNSLEY (8/11) are hard to beat at Oakwell and can grab three more points at the expense of Plymouth.
BRENTFORD (8/11) are scoring for fun at Griffin Park and look too strong for lowly Wycombe.
Making the weekend Fivehit up are HEARTS (8/11) who can make home advantage count against Falkirk.
PG QUAD
On to the weekend quad and we suggest that COVENTRY (6/5) are the first team down on your docket this weekend.
They take on a QPR team who are in turmoil at the minute and Chris Coleman’s team can take full advantage.
PRESTON (5/4) can beat out-of-sorts Blackpool at Deepdale while leaders NEWCASTLE (11/8) can bounce back with a win over Swansea – this is a lunchtime kick-off.
NOTTINGHAM FOREST (11/10) make the weekend quad up and we are taking them to grab a win at Doncaster.
PG XXX
Let’s try and get the full house in the draws this week and we start in the SPL where we have taken MOTHERWELL to claim a point at HAMILTON.
ST MIRREN are hard to beat on their home turf and they can grab a point at home to a verymuch in-form DUNDEE UTD team.
DUNFERMLINE gave a good show against Celtic last week, running out of steam a bit towards the end, and that’s why we are taking them to grab a draw at ROSS COUNTY at the weekend.
All three draws are priced at 11/5.

WHAT A PERFORMANCE from the Phillip Fenton- trained Dunguib at Leopardstown on Sunday, where he won the Deloitte Novice Hurdle without coming off the bridle.
Sean Graham reacted after the race by cutting the Irish start to 5/6 for the Supreme Novices Hurdle and he has already gone into many punters’ books as this year’s ‘banker’ bet at the festival.
Settled at the rear of the field by his young jockey Brian O'Connell, he did not jump very well throughout but that made little difference to the seven-year-old.
He jumped the last fence the best and that’s when the pace increased, and with a good gallop always guaranteed at the festival Dunguib will be hard to beat come March.
Captain Cee Bee made no mistake at Naas on Saturday and Sean Graham have cut him to 10/3 for the Arkle ahead of Sizing Europe.
Punchestowns remains the 3/1 favourite for the RSA Chase after easing to victory at Sandown, while stablemate BINOCULAR remains a 7/1 for the Champion Hurdle after hacking up at the same track.
We tipped up KALAHARI KING on the PG blog at the weekend and he romped home at odds of 10/1 at Doncaster; now he has been cut to 8/1 for the Queen Mother behind hotpot Master Minded, who runs this weekend and is the 11/10 jolly.
COOLDINE remains a 14/1 outside bet for the Gold Cup after his gallant second in the Hennessy behind Joncol, with Denman supported to 2/1 after news that Tony McCoy will be on board this weekend and in the Gold Cup.
That brings us on to the weekend action.
Denman returns at Newbury in the AON Chase and will take some some stopping, while stablemate MASTER MINDED faces old foe Voy Por Ustedes in the Game Spirit in his last run before the festival.
We finish with the ultra-competitive handicap that is the Totesport Trophy and what a puzzling race this is to work out.
Nicky Henderson has a strong hand in this race with Spirit River and Fairyland his main hopes.
Spirit River leads the betting at 6/1 after winning at Cheltenham in December, but we are looking elsewhere on Saturday and have put two horses up.
The David Pipe-trained MAMLOOK (10/1) has a tough ask with his weight but he ran out a game winner at Ascot last time out under Hadden Frost and looks on the upgrade.
BLUE BAJAN shoulders top weight and gets a 33/1 quote for Saturday. He will be a strip fitter for this race after a spin on the all-weather. He has run and done well in better races than this one and could well run into a place.
A local punter was left gutted at the weekend after missing out on a 221/1 £50 double – but it beggars belief why this guy didn’t back each-way.
He took LEE WESTWOOD at 12/1 to win the Dubai Masters and STEVE STRICKER at 16/1 to win the Northern Trust Open in the States.
Westwood lost in a play-off against Miguel Angel Jimenez after squandering two putts for glory.
New world number 2 Steve Stricker just held on for the win after being 1/66 going into the last round.
Those missed Westwood putts cost our gutted punter an £11,050 Monday payday – heart-wrenching. If he had done a £25 each-way double he would have picked up £500 on Monday. Easy for us to say – hindsight is 20/20.
FRIDAY QUAD
NORTHAMPTON 1/1
BURTON 6/5
AC MILAN 4/7
Borussia M'gladbach 1/1
Over and out to Monday folks
