A Rock Street punter took Ladbrokes for a few quid at the weekend with a correct score double.
The canny punter placed 2 x £5 wins and a £10 double and his bet got off to a flyer when he correctly picked a 2-2 scoreline in the Liverpool v Man City, which got a 14/1 price .
So money banked and a nice sweat on his second selection with £155 now riding on the evening kick-off at Old Trafford.
He took Man Utd to beat Everton 3-0 at 7/1 and the champions did just that to give our punter a pre- Christmas boost with our savvy winner picking up £1, 315 – a really cracking double.
Another punter in the money on Tuesday was Chris McKenna who in fact went to the bookies for a football bet that night, looked up at the board and picked two horses that were about to run.
First horse down was Grange Alainn in the 3.05 at Gowran Park and he just got up at 10/1 to give him a £55 riding on his next one in the 3.20 at Sedgefield. And Chris couldn’t believe his luck when 12/1 shot Opus Cafe got up and won to net him £615.
It was our punter’s biggest return ever on the horses and he did the right thing by just lifting and walking – great fiver bet, and how we love small stakes.
SEAN GRAHAM £25 BET COMPETITION
Fancy a free £25 football bet at the weekend? Then enter our competition courtesy of PG sponsor Sean Grahams. Answer this very simple question: Who scored the winning goal for Liverpool on Tuesday night?
Answers by email all day today (Thursday) to pun tersguide@irelandclick.com or call 90 608840 before lunchtime today (Thursday). Winners will be notified. Last week’s winners: Gerard Lecky and Michael Duffy.
PG CUP 2009 FIRST SEMI-FINAL
THE BCC Legal Eagles sealed the last semi-final place last weekend after ousting the Citybus Duo – but only just.
The Busmen grabbed three winners but it only worked out as a 4.9/1 treble while the Eagles’ two winners paid over 5.1/1, so the City Hall lads will face Bombardier Hotshots in next week’s semi-final crunch match.
The first semi-final is this week with hot favorites Boucher Bankers taking on 2007 champs DVLNI in what looks a very hard challenge to call.
They take on a DVLNI team who have been there, done that, and are hungry to regain their title this year.
DVLNI are led by team captain Damian ‘The Hoff’ Armstrong, who has told the PG that they expect a stroll this weekend against the bankers.
“We have beaten better teams and we think the bankers peaked in the last round and are now there for the taking this weekend,” the Hoff told the PG.
He keeps the same team that saw off the Stormont 4 so seasoned gamblers Paul ‘Hookbacker’ Officer and Kevin ‘Waterbottle’ McGuckin are back in the plate for the weekend
Boucher Bankers have re-invented themselves and changed a few faces as they bid to move away from the old Bank On Us name that failed to make the grade here last year.
They have had seven winning selections from eight in their two games in this season’s competition.
The betting duo of JP ‘ 2-2 draw’ Crossan and Kevin ‘Odds-On’ Gallagher make this team up with still no place for Tommy ‘Think Tank’ Smyth after the banking duo delivered a 14/1 winning quad when beating the fading force of the BMG Printers in the quarter-finals. JP laughed off at suggestions that his side has peaked too soon.
“We’re only getting started and we fully expect to be visiting the settler’s counter come Monday and hopefully that should be enough to see in us into the final,” he said.
BOUCHER BANKERS: Notts Forest 8/11, Fulham 10/11, Newcastle 4/6, Blackpool 6/5
DVLNI PUNTERS: Arsenal (draw) 15/8, Middlesboro 5/4, Man Utd 1/3, Tranmere 10/11

ANOTHER 10/1 winner for the PG last weekend as the winners just keep rolling in, but what do we have to do to get this XXX up.
ReplyDeleteFirst two draws home and hosed on Saturday and then Bolton let us down in the Sunday game against rivals Blackburn – gutting, but we can’t complain after the luck and winners we have had in the last month.
SUNDAY DOUBLE
What a cracking day of live football we have on Sunday and I expect there will be a lot of people phoning in sick come Monday.
We start with the 1.30 game at Goodison Park where Everton host Liverpool in the first Merseyside derby of the season.
Liverpool have not won a game in the Premiership in six weeks, they look well out of the title race and will be eager to get back into the top four race. They take on an Everton side who have yet to hit top form this season and were taken apart by Man Utd at the weekend. David Moyes will hope to get something out of this game and we think his side will gain a point, so it’s a draw for us priced at 11/5.
The big match of the weekend happens at 4pm on Sunday when cosy leaders Chelsea pay a visit to the Emirates to take on third-placed Arsenal, who will want to put that Sunderland result firmly behind them.
They entertain a Chelsea team who are leading at a canter and are now looking like a footballing side under Carlo Ancelotti. Here’s hoping they try and play a bit on Sunday and not try to stop the Gunners playing.
If that happens then Arsenal could be worth a punt at 7/4. The Sunday double works out at around 9/1.
PG QUAD
On to the weekennd quad and we start with our banker bet of the weekend, WEST HAM (10/11), who can take all points against bad travellers Burnley.
FULHAM (10/11) can get three points on the board with a win against a Bolton side who are destined for the Championship next season. BLACKBURN (10/11) look back to form and can bag another three points at home to Stoke. PARTICK (5/4) are hard to beat at home and can take all the points against Inverness.
PG FA CUP FIVEHIT
On to the weekend fivehit and our selections are all in the FA Cup second round so fill your boots on the following teams: COLCHESTER (10/11) to win at Hereford, MK Dons (8/13) to beat Exeter, SWINDON (4/5) to win at Wrexham, SOUTHAMPTON (10/11) to win at Northampton, and making the fivehit up are free-scoring HUDDERSFIELD (1/1) to win at Port Vale.
PG XXX
We finish with our draw treble so mark ‘X’s on the following weekend games: Take SPURS to grab a point at ASTON VILLA, while BARNSLEY can take a point home with them from their visit to Plymouth. We go to the SPL to make the XXX up and have taken Dundee Utd to take a point at Fir Park where they take on MOTHERWELL.
Yet another cracking weekend of top-notch racing to look forward to folks, with the Hennessy Gold Cup taking centre stage.
ReplyDeleteOur each-way bet in the Betfair Imperial Commander just failed to get the verdict against champion Kauto Star at Haydock, but what an impression Zaynar made at Ascot with a cracking run and has been backed for the Champion Hurdle after that easy win.
Diamond Harry for me was the most impressive winner of the weekend and could be a big contender for the World Hurdle, but word has it he could go chasing.
HENNESSY GOLD CUP: 2.40, Saturday, Newbury
We start with the Hennessy and the return of DENMAN. Paul Nicholls reports the horse as being “twice the horse he was last year” and we think he can win his second Hennessy on Saturday. He gets a 9/2 quote from Sean Graham.
Our each-way bet is Paddy Power Gold Cup fourth BALLYFITZ from the in-form Twiston-Davies yard, he could well run into a place at 20/1.
Sean Graham Bet: Denman 4/1, Barbers Shop 7, What A Friend 7, Killyglen 8, Cappa Bleu 9, Carruthers 10, Gone To Lunch 16, Ballyfitz 20, Casey Jones 20, Horner Woods 20, State of Play 20, Nenuphar Collonges 25, Snowy Morning 25, Kornati Kid 28, According To Pete 33, An Accordion 33, Arbor Supreme 33, Dream Alliance 33, My Will 33, Siegemaster 33 – others 40 or more
Fighting Fifth Hurdle : 1.50 Saturday, Newcastle
If you want any Champion Hurdle hints then tune into the big hurdle race of the weekend on Saturday – the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle.
We have leading Irish hope Solwhit taking on last year’s beaten Champion Hurdle favourite Binocular, and what a race we could be in for.
We have sided with Binocular in this one but he will face a stern challenge from Solwhit who lowered the colours of Hurricane Run last time out.
FAIRYHOUSE SUNDAY
We have three Grade Ones at Fairyhouse on Sunday with the mighty DUNGUIB lining up in the Bar One Racing Royal Bond Novice Hurdle and he should win this one, but you’ll not get rich backing him.
In the Bar One Racing Drinmore Novice Steeplechase we think the Noel Meade-trained Pandorama will go close and his big danger could be the Edward O’Grady-trained Pesoto.
The final Grade One race of the day is the Bar One Racing Hatton's Grace Hurdle and we are going for a bit of an upset in this one, taking Cheltenham winner Ninetieth Minute to reverse the form with favourite Aimatov.

What a result for the 'pool! Well overdue. Just watch us go now. If we had 4 0r 5 more points on the board we'd be in with a shout for challenging for the league only for injuries. At least if we finish second we wont have to go through the qualifying rounds for the champions league next season.

Noel Meade's Harchibald has been retired following his last appearance at Dundalk.
ReplyDeleteThe 10-year-old won 10 races from 37 starts, a record that included four Grade One wins among which were two Christmas Hurdles at Kempton.
His most memorable performance came in defeat when he cruised into contention in the 2005 Champion Hurdle on the bridle, only to lose out to Hardy Eustace.
Meade told sportinglife.com: "He's been retired. He's just getting on a bit and when he came back from Dundalk the other day he was feeling a bit sore behind and this is a problem we've been having with him all along.
"After that we thought it was best to retire him. We don't want to be knocking him about anymore so it's for the best.
"He was one of my favourites. He was always controversial but he was just a very good horse who won a lot of great races and he gave us a lot of great times.
"It's just a pity he didn't win that Champion Hurdle."

Arsenal season over
ReplyDeleteANDREY ARSHAVIN has grown concerned and bitter at the number of big games Arsenal are losing.
The Russian ace is alarmed that the Gunners have fallen 11 points behind Chelsea after Sunday's 3-0 loss to the leaders at the Emirates.
This term they have lost to both Manchester clubs - as well as the Blues - and it is a trend which is frustrating for Arshavin.
While the striker is not yet ready to throw in the towel on winning the Premier League title, he believes boss Arsene Wenger must spend big next month to give them any chance.
Arshavin feels the current squad at the Emirates does not measure up to the one at Carlo Ancelotti's disposal across the capital.
He said: "What I feel bitter about is that we lose in all the big matches.
"That is disappointing and lets doubts creep into my mind.
"Chelsea are now 11 points ahead of us, although we played one game less. At the moment, they look the strongest team.
"They have attacking players who can make use of opponents' slightest defensive mistakes.
"Didier Drogba, for example. If we only take pure strikers, he is the strongest in the world. He and Zlatan Ibrahimovic."
Wenger has been reluctant to spend too much of Arsenal's money in recent transfer windows but Arshavin says that must change in January.
He added: "Arsene Wenger needs to buy new players - and expensive ones too.
"Why? Because all the talented and inexpensive players are already with us at Arsenal.

What about the disgraceful antics of Arsene Wenger last night refusing to shake the hand of city manager Mark Hughes. The manager should be setting a good example to the players and younger generation by being graceful in defeat. No one wants him to be happy but by saying that he will only shake the hand of whoever he chooses is childish. No wonder footballers are diving, faking injury when you have managers acting like this.

WELL SAID REAL FOOTBALL SUPPORTER.
ReplyDeleteThe best post or blog i have read on here ever.Wenger disrepects players, officials and supporters every week with his antics and blatant lies when he never sees an incident his player is involved in but he sees everything else.He is the main reason footballers at Arsenal are so arrogant.
Great to see them getting tanked in their last 2 games.
