Bookmakers take hammering with 256/1 Naas treble

LOCAL bookmakers came under attack at the weekend after punters latched on to ex-jockey turned trainer Michael O’Hare’s runners at Naas.
O'Hare and owner Tracey O'Hare were the combination to follow on Saturday's card at Naas, where they completed a tremendous 256/1 treble in the final three races on the card. And many fancied it.
Punters slipped under the bookmakers’ radar by betting small amounts in shops in Belfast with most punters backing all three winners in treble bets while some latched on to singles.
The first and most valuable of their wins came in the Brown Lad Handicap Hurdle with the Keith Clarke-ridden Montana Slim grinding out a very game 3/4-length victory at odds of 7/1 after drifting from 11/2 on-course.
That win was followed 35 minutes later by the significantly easier success of Bale O'Shea in the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle under Peter Carberry. The memorable hat-trick day for all concerned was completed by the comfortable win of Sweet Shock in the concluding bumper under Luke McNiff. It was backed into 3/1 favourite on course from a 10/1 morning pricing.
Bookmakers reported heavy losses at the weekend on the Naas winners and just wish somebody had told me about it.
